Record Cleaning Accessories FAQs

Accessories FAQs

This is usually caused by applying too much pressure. The brush should only lightly touch the record surface. If the bristles are visibly bending, too much pressure is being applied.

The purpose of the brush is to gently lift dust and debris from the record surface. It is not intended to reach deep into the grooves - that is what a wet cleaning process is for.

Fine marks can also be caused by dragging the brush across the grooves. Keep the brush in a fixed position and only adjust its tilt to facilitate dust removal.

If the issue continues, our velvet cleaning pad may be a better option for you. While it does not have the same anti-static strength as the carbon fibre brush, it is more forgiving when it comes to hairline marks.

Yes, this is completely normal. If your hi-fi is switched on when you clean the stylus, any brushing motion will be picked up by the stylus and passed through to your speakers. This is harmless and will not damage your stylus or speakers.

Your cleaning kit includes a blue cloth and a white cloth. Please wash the blue cloth before first use to remove any loose fibres from the manufacturing process.

For best results, use the blue cloth first to remove as much dirt as possible, then give the record a quick wipe with the white cloth as a second step.

The velvet cleaning pad will gradually accumulate dirt and debris, which reduces its effectiveness. The brush is for cleaning the surface of the pad and should be used regularly to maintain performance.

Yes. The cloths can be washed in a washing machine without fabric conditioner, or cleaned by hand with an unfragranced bar of soap.

We recommend cleaning your Dust Buster when it looks dirty, or at least every 3 months.

Yes, this is completely normal and in fact helpful. The pop indicates the stylus has been microscopically cleaned. The sound acts as a natural prompt to lift your tonearm out of the polymer.

Some turntables and tonearms do not provide enough clearance to use the Dust Buster directly on the platter, particularly on suspended decks or decks with high platters.

In this case, we recommend using a Dust Buster lifter - a small platform placed next to the platter that raises the Dust Buster to the correct height. You can make a simple DIY lifter using 25mm electrical conduit tubing or clear acrylic tubing, cut so the top surface sits at approximately the same height as your platter.

When ready to clean, move the tonearm over the Dust Buster and use your arm lift to gently lower the stylus into the gel.

We do not recommend this because:

  • A 12-inch mat on a 7-inch platter will not be stable.
  • The motors in 7-inch decks are typically not powerful enough to handle the extra weight and may struggle to run at the correct speed.
  • The increase in height could affect the Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) and Vertical Tracking Force (VTF), which are often not adjustable on smaller decks.

Yes, you can use a turntable mat in conjunction with a record clamp.

The coloured dots are intended as a reference point so you can easily identify our sleeve range. They are not designed to be removed and may leave residue if you try.

The dots are small (approximately 1x1cm) and designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, so you can use the sleeves in your collection. For sticker-free sleeves, we recommend purchasing our retail packs.
