Abba & Kanye West | April 2018 In Music

ABBA and Kanye West Collage

April has traditionally always been a busy month for vinyl music enthusiasts. With Record Store Day falling on the 21st, we get to see all the new material and re-releases come to light. Add into this already exciting mix ABBA announcing a tour (but not as you would think!) and Kanye West lyrically trolling the world and you get a pretty interesting month.

I won’t start discussing RSD 2018 in this article as it would eclipse everything else that has happened this month. You can look forward to a post on RSD 2018 hopefully some time late-May when we’ve had a chance to let the dust settle and evaluate the situation with a clear head. ABBA have announced that they will be releasing their first new music in 35 years and plan to tour sometime either in 2019 or 2020.

In a short press release, the band stated "We all felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!"

Now before you go and rehearse your Mamma Mia moves, understand that it will not be the actual band touring. By that I mean, not in the physical form. In a move reminiscent of Tupac at Coachella 2012, ABBA will be touring as holograms. Band member Bjorn Ulvaeus, 72, said: "They photographed us from all possible angles, they made us grimace in front of cameras, they painted dots on our faces, they measured our heads.

Of course, it’s great news that they’re releasing new music. But will the fans be prepared to pay to see their heroes in hologram form?

April has also been an interesting time for Kanye West. The beginning of the month saw him teaming up with Donald Trump, publicly flaunting their controversial relationship on Twitter. This combined with his new song titled “Lift Yourself”, has created quite the storm on Twitter.

In particular, it’s the last verse of his new song, the lyrical content of which has been greatly contested, on and off social media. We’ve included this verse below and we’ll leave it up to you to draw your conclusions.
